Ayurveda - Living Life in Balance
Sunday February 24, 12pm - 2:30pm
Amantaka Hotel
Ether, Air, Fire Water and Earth - Do you know what you're made up of? And based on this, do you know what keeps you balanced and what what throws you off and why? Come and learn how the ancient science of life, Ayurveda, defines you and its prescriptions on how to live a balanced life.
Ayurveda, also known as the "Science of Life" is the oldest surviving system of healing in the world. Although it was first recorded in the Vedas over 3,500 years ago in writing, it is believed to have been passed down as an oral tradition long before that. Amongst other things, Ayurveda defines health as having a pleasant state of body, mind, Soul and sense organs. Thus, eating correctly, having a relevant yoga practice and living in harmony with the world around us keeps us in a state of balance. Understanding the five great elements (ether, air, fire, water and earth) helps us to uncover what we're made of and why we respond the way we do to the different season, the different times of the day, so specific foods and even to our yoga practice.
In this two and a half hour workshop, we'll cover the following topics:
- The five great elements and their properties
- The three doshas and how they determine our nature
- The six tastes and the effects of food on our nature
- Ayurveda related to the seasons, the different times of the day and age
- Gunas or qualities of the mind
- Determining imbalances
- Yoga asanas to calm imbalances of the body and mind
