The workshop with Heather will explore expressive inversions that will strengthen your practice and bring about freedom and creativity. Heather's specialty in teaching Tripsichore inversions allows her to break down the postures with clarity. This workshop is not only for experienced practitioners who would like to get into new variations of headstands, handstands and arm balances, but also for beginners who can benefit from Heather's guidance and precise instruction. The first day we will focus strongly building comfort and ease in inversions by introducing the Tripsichore style using the breath to inspire a smooth continuous flow while entering and exiting. This style of breath and inverting will most likely be new to even advanced practitioners with a steady practice of inversions. We will also work on how to use the breath to move the legs and explore other leg variations upside down. The basics of breath and movement are the same for headstand, forearmstand, and handstand, so students will eventually be able to choose where they would like to work.

ABOUT HEATHER

As a passionate student and teacher of asana and circus arts, Heather's classes endeavour to create movement inspired by the breathe and catalyze energy flow through mindful alignment. She met Edward Clarke of Tripsichore during her teacher training, since then she has studied with them at every opportunity available to her. Tripsichore has been pivotal in her development as a teacher and practitioner, particularly in regards to the philosophy of Vinyasa. With a practice grounded by the joy of movement and the bliss of breathe, her greatest pleasure is in enabling her students in their own journey back to themselves through a liberating, humbling, and limitless experience of yoga.

ABOUT TRIPSICHORE

Tripsichore began in 1979 as a company devoted to creating full length dance narratives. We explored a variety of stylistic forms including punk ballet, conventional modern dance and strict neo-classical technique. While yoga was always a part of our training, it wasn't until 1992 that we realised the expressive potential and choreographic viability of yoga postures. Once we began to devise works using yoga asanas, their extraordinary artistic logic became evident. Surprisingly, it would seem that there has been no orthodox tradition for using yoga technique to create dances in the 5000 year history of the discipline. The postures intrinsically possess a sumptuous beauty and fluidity. They are the ideal vehicle to express the themes of harmony, balance, spirituality, ecstasy, bliss and mysticism because they are exactly about these subjects in and of themselves. We are now many years into this experiment and each day brings new discoveries.
